Mothering Magazine

I've been thinking of subscribing, but it seems so expensive. So, for those of you that subscribe, is it really worth paying 22 bucks for 6 copies?

I've had subscriptions before (gifts at the birth of each of my babes), and I like the magazine but it's not worth $22 to me. Especially now that my babies aren't babies anymore.

On the one hand, it is kind of expensive. On the other hand, it's not like "American Baby" or "Parents" or one of those pulpy pablum magazines that revisits topics over and over and over. Each issue is worth keeping, and past issues have very valuable information. For instance, my ped suggested I order the "vaccination issue" to get good info about delaying/not vaxing.

I like it. I think of the other things I spend $22 on in a year, and I'm glad I have my Mothering magazines. Makes me feel connected to other women who are more like me.

Plus it's recycled paper and soy ink and all that environmentally happy planet hoo haw, so I don't feel as bad about getting a subscription. Maybe your library has issues you can read, or maybe you could share a subscription with a friend?

YES, for sure. I look forward to getting my copy in the mail like it's Christmas.

That kept me from subscribing for a while too. It is really, really worth it. It is the only magazine I've seen in which every single thing is relevant and of value to me, even the advertisements.

$22?!?! I just paid $37 for my subscription...?!! Anyway, I enjoy the magazine, and I especially like being able to put it in front of my husband, but there are SO many ads it kind of puts me off. (Yes, I realize ALL magazines are full of ads, but given the expense of the subscription, seeing THAT many ads is somewhat annoying.)

My first subscription just ran out, and I renewed for two more years, so yes I'd say it's worth it. Plus I'm paying a bit more than $22 because I am in Canada.

I have kept every issue I've received so far, and have passed them around between pregnant and nursing friends. The magazine is an excellent resource!

I have subscribed to Mothering for so long now, I don't even remember a time without a copy by the toilet. I bring them to work and leave them at the nurse's station. I give subscriptions to friends when they have babies for the first time, and I have bought a few of their books as well.

Excellent publication, so worth the $22!!!

I had a subscription last year, but as a new mama who was struggling along with all of my "plans" going opposite of what I wanted. I wasn't really excited to see more articles on natural birth and breastfeeding, they just made me want to cry. Just my two cents, it was hard for me to read the magazine as I was struggling with depression and not being able to breastfeed exclusively.

It's my favorite magazine, and the only one that I save all my copies of.

My guess is that the high cost is due to the ads in the magazines not coming from companies with the big bucks (formula, disposable diapers, etc), and I'm more than happy to support that.

Discounts!! on the mag!!

I thought it was kind of spendy too, but I ended up finding a few discounts. If you sign up for the Green Guide it's only like $16!! http://www.thegreenguide.com/
And if you sign up for the natural child project newsletter http://www.naturalchild.org/ (free) they might even just have it in the resources page. They give you a code for $2 off.

I already ordered mine!! and then I found out that my midwife gets a case of every issue with freebies to give away.

I think it's definitely well worth it! Their last issue was soooo informative (was on babywearing). I love it!

I haven't subscribed yet but I plan to. I tend to troll the maternity shops in town because they often have a bunch of the current edition for free lying around. I've always really liked it and would love to get it in the mail. SO much better then American Baby.

I’m a subscriber of 10 years. (Wow how did that happen?) And it's very worth it to me. I don't personally think it's that much to pay for, especially because it connects me with others like me. It just seems pricey when compared to the cheep and free magazines supported by pharmaceutical companies that produce fake baby milk and vaccines.

There are times when it is heavy with ads, but they are all good companies. There are other times that it is not as heavy with ads.

I used to gobble up every word the day it arrived. Now that I’m a mom of 5 it takes me two or three days. But then I go back over and read it cover to cover again and again. I save them all like treasures.

It’s a support system in a magazine that reminds me that I’m not stark raving mad for being as passionate as I am about my children. There have been many a story that make me tear up with delight and overwhelming joy. It feeds my soul and it makes me happy. And I deserve some happy! =)

If you like the articles on their website then you really should subscribe. The articles are from previous issues.

My dh finally made me get a subscription because I've stalked the bookstore like clockwork every two months for it since my dd was born (she's 19 months now, I was about 7 months when I started buying it).

DEFINITELY worth it, imo.

Totally worth it. We started out with a year subscription and just renewed for the next three years. Only this weekend did we find out that I'm pregnant :) Rarely do I read all the articles in a magazine, even ones that I subscribe to, but with Mothering I read each issue cover to cover.

Not to me, since my library rocks and carries it. :)

I love this Magazine, I read every issue cover to cover!
I definitely think it's worth subscribing.
I am constantly rereading old issues and discovering articles that have suddenly become relevant to our family as it grows.
